Thomas J. Hoey, Director

Thomas J. Hoey got his idea to recreate a turn-of-the-century John Philip Sousa Band Concert while reading a Sousa biography. Tom has been playing the music of Sousa since his teen years. As a young musician, he played Sousa marches at park concerts and parades, always loving the stirring music and stimulating atmosphere. Tom decided to recreate the sound and feel of a Sousa performance. His first Sousa revival concert took place in the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center in 1987. Since that time, Tom's extensive research and interests have led him to Sousa performances at many places. A Sousa Concert is a dramatic performance, a stirring lesson in patriotism, and an unforgettable musical event, all in one program. Tom's greatest reward is bringing all this enjoyment to today's listener. |
